I have taken art through all my years of high school because it pushes me to express myself in ways words can’t. Making art gives me a chance to show my creativity, and when I work I feel like I can communicate emotions, thoughts and ideas. I enjoy the process of turning blank pieces of clay into something meaningful. My goal as an artist is to keep exploring ways to be creative and true to myself.

When I’m working, I make thoughtful decisions about materials, techniques, and themes I use. I choose things that reflect what I’m feeling or what I want the piece to say. I often use bright colors and floral themes because they make me feel happy and inspired. I like how flowers can carry so many different meanings and emotions. The colors I choose are just as important as the subject, because they help bring the pieces to life.

This year in College Advanced Clay, I focused more on details and the glaze colors for my work. I spent extra time picking out the right combinations that made sure the pieces felt balanced and expressive. I’ve also pushed myself to add more details and trying out newer themes and clay. This helped me grow as an artist and keep the process exciting.
